Commodore's Greeting

Ahoy!

For more than 60 years, SBSC has been a collection of boaters on the Santa Barbara Channel.  We are a no-frills, get-out-on-the-water, non-profit, sail hard group based on volunteering. With year-round sailing, our mission of providing affordable access to the water for active sailors has never been hard to accomplish, and generations of committed volunteers have helped steer the club to where it is today.  Our members are one-design racers, PHRF racers, dinghy sailors, cruisers, and day sailors with a common love of boats that has brought us together.

Our first event this year will be the Opening Day Celebration and Regatta when you can meet the new Bridge and spend a fun afternoon racing before enjoying drinks and food with the fleet.

Our two signature events for the year include the Cinco de Mayo Regatta and the Goblin Regatta both in which 50 plus boats have attended annually. Multiple around-the-buoy races, friendship, dinner, costumes and awards are a big part of the success of these great regattas.

With the Pierpont Bay Yacht club, we co-host the Hardway Race, which starts in Santa Barbara, rounds the Channel Islands, and finishes in Ventura. We also co-host the Goleta Beach Regatta and BBQ with the SBYC.

You can find several other fun regattas and dinghy races listed on our race calendar, including the challenging Co-ed Triple-Handed Race , the Double-Handed race , and the Bugay Single-Handed race.

More regularly, we will hold a BBQ and Happy Hour following the first SBYC Wet Wednesday race of each month, beginning in April.

Further information is available on our website (www.sailsbsc.org), including a list of our officers and board members, whom all deserve our gratitude for their hard work throughout the year.

Hope to see you at some or all of the events!

Fair winds,

Michael Ghens
