Commodore Mike Burdick and his Flagship Laser 154261
Every sailing club and yacht club has a unique history on how it came to be established, who the founding members were, and what they wanted to accomplish. The Santa Barbara Sailing Club (SBSC) is no different. For the past 55 years, the SBSC has offered an affordable venue for the sport of sailboat racing. Likewise, every sailing club and yacht club on the West Coast evolves over time, each one taking on a distinctive role within the larger sailing community. The SBSC is no different: we are the racing club.
In addition to our two signature regattas – the Cinco de Mayo and the Goblin regattas, the SBSC offers a variety of races that complements the Santa Barbara Yacht Club’s racing schedule and rounds out the sailing season—most notably, the Goleta Beach Race and, in conjunction with the Pierpoint Yacht Club, the Hardway Race.
Our club members have a wealth of yachting experience, from blue-water cruising to the Transpac, from the local beer-can races to international competition. Moreover, our members travel to regattas throughout California and the U.S., competing at all levels and earning top honors. Whether in the Laser, the J-24, the Melges, or PHRF-rated keel boats among many others, the travel and competition of our members help to foster a true community of sailors far greater than the current club roster.
I am proud to be a member of the Santa Barbara Sailing Club and I am honored to be this year’s commodore.
See you on the water,
