Hello club members.
As I read stories about sailors in New England digging their boats out of the snow, I do feel a bit pampered knowing that we can go sailing pretty much any day of the year in weather that is likely to be terrific. We have a pretty good gig. The club is starting out in strong shape for 2016 thanks to great stewardship from 2015 Commodore Steve Hendricks and the rest of the Officers and Board. Thank you.
For 2016, we will continue to put on our signature Cinco de Mayo and Goblin Regatta, along with several dinghy and Laser events. We will also team with SBYC for the Goleta Beach Race and Barbecue and Pierpont Bay Yacht Club for the Hardway Race. I would like to hear from you. It’s your club. What would you like to do? I have heard some ideas for mixing it up a little, such as a new Fun Race where crew names are drawn from a hat. The club has a new grill. “Beer and a dog”, 1st Wet Wednesday of the month? I have also heard some members would like more frequent communication about club activity and upcoming events. I welcome these suggestions and plan a return of Tiller Talk, the club’s news letter. I hope to meet and speak with all members this year, and share a beer while listening to you spin a yarn about a boating adventure of yours. Ask me about the time I was dismasted,………. in my driveway. Yes, “there is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.” (Kenneth Grahame, Wind in the Willows).
Respectfully, your Commodore
